Baycrest's 5th Showing of Art & Soul We Need Your Energy & Enthusiasm 2003-12-09 12:05:22 By Linda Roth, Leadership Development Group Coordinator
The Leadership Development Group of The Baycrest Centre Foundation is thrilled to announce the 2004 return of Art & Soul. We are looking for young, enthusiastic volunteers to join our committee. Scheduled for Saturday February 7, 2004 at the Eglinton Grand, Art & Soul will be chaired by Marci Kroft, a private Art Consultant, and Laura Mandell, a Public Affairs & Media Relations Specialist.
What is Art & Soul? Art & Soul is a lively, fun-filled evening of music, food and drink featuring exciting live and silent auctions, with works of art donated by artists, galleries, and private collectors. Eagerly anticipated by the community, Art & Soul is returning after a short sabbatical for its 5th 'showing'. This year's event promises to bring an exciting new energy to this successful fundraiser which attracts up to 600 people who are looking for great art, a terrific night out and to support a wonderful cause.
What is Baycrest? Since its founding in 1918, Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care has evolved into an internationally-renowned academic health sciences centre committed to improving the health of tomorrow's elderly, while at the same time caring for the elderly of today. Affiliated with the University of Toronto, Baycrest is advancing care through the power of research and education-with a focus on brain functioning and mental health related to aging.
What is The Leadership Development Group? The Leadership Development Group is made up of volunteers between the ages of 25 and 45 looking to advance their leadership skills as well as enrich the lives of seniors in our community. All of our popular fundraising events appeal to a younger generation of Baycrest supporters, helping to raise awareness about Baycrest's excellence in Care, Research and Education related to aging.
Why Art & Soul for Baycrest? Art & music fill the halls of Baycrest Centre throughout the year. These two mediums are combined into the Art & Soul fundraiser, reminding us how life is enriched when we are surrounded by both.
Art is very important to Baycrest. The community has donated over 7,000 pieces to the Centre. Many of Baycrest's clients suffer from severe cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, dementia and depression. It has the ability to trigger memories and feelings by bringing colour, meaning, patterns and shapes to people who can no longer evoke these on their own.
