Maccabi Canada is looking for coaches, medical staff and chaperones to accompany athletes to the 19th Maccabiah Games in Israel - July 18-30, 2013.
The Maccabi Games are a celebration of Jewish unity, culture, and heritage through world athletic competition and are officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee. The games take place every four years in their respective regions, with the Maccabiah Games in Israel being the largest and the point of pride for the organization.
Israel's 18th Maccabiah in 2009 attracted 7,500 participants, speaking 28 different languages from 55 different countries. Approximately 100 of these athletes decided to call Israel their home once the 2009 games concluded: 68 per cent of the athletes that attended the games had never been to Israel before.
Organizers are hoping to attract 8,500 representatives in 2013, with Maccabi Canada's contingent equaling or exceeding the 500-plus strong delegation from 2009.
A new venue also awaits athletes, representatives and supporters when they land in Israel. The opening ceremonies will be moved from the Tel Aviv area to Jerusalem in a refurbished stadium reconfigured to hold 32,000 people. The closing ceremonies will be in Haifa.
