TEATRON - Toronto Jewish Theatre Presents... This Night by Robert Majzels 2004-02-26 15:45:28
TEATRON - Toronto Jewish Theatre is a professional not-for-profit company producing Jewish-themed plays from across the globe. Established in 2002, its mandate has been to unveil the treasures of Jewish tradition, enrich and inspire the Jewish experience and honour Jewish heritage.
As the only professional Shomer Shabbat theatre in Ontario, TEATRON answers a unique need making theatre accessible to all, including observant Jewish theatre artists who may be unable to work in their chosen craft because of conflicts with their religious beliefs and obligations.
TEATRON is proud to present This Night: a Play in Two Acts by award-winning Canadian author and playwright Robert Majzels - March 3-20, 2004. The play was described as: "Gripping truths are revealed in this intense 90 minutes of confrontation and reconciliation," View Magazine, Kerry Corrigan
The play explores the dilemma of children of the Holocaust, saddled with a memory they can never entirely call their own. Two brothers, Benny and David, battle over the truth of their father's life and their Jewish heritage. The brothers struggle with the questions of "Which of us has been true to our father's experience as a survivor of the Holocaust? Which has betrayed the legacy?"
"After more than half a century," says playwright Majzels, "it’s no longer enough to say ‘Never forget so that it should never happen again.’ We need to think and talk about what exactly we are supposed to remember. We have to make the problem actual and real."
